Contactless payments
Contactless payment
It refers to a payment made without entering credit card into a terminal and typing your PIN. Customers only have to press their card at the terminal to pay. More and more retailers accept this payment technique for amounts under €50.
NFC
NFC is short for "Near Field Communication", the technology behind contactless payments. The card has an NFC chip.
Limits
To reduce the fraud risk on contactless payments, some limits are applied.
The 6th transaction will be refused and customers will have to try again by inserting their card into the terminal and entering their PIN code. Customers will then be able to carry out contactless transactions again, up to a limit of 5 consecutive transactions.
Customers will also have to try again by inserting their card and entering their PIN code in order to complete the transaction. For example, if 3 contactless payments of €50 are made consecutively, the next contactless transaction will be refused if customers do not first make a payment using their PIN code.
Disable contactless payments
To disable contactless payments, customers have to click on “Card options” from the “Cards” menu, then drag the button located on the Contactless (NFC) line. The background of the button will turn white (inactive).
Enable contactless payments
To activate contactless payments, customers have to click or swipe the button located next to "Contactless (NFC)". The button turns green (enabled), meaning the card now has contactless payments enabled.
